One of the most promissing European runners Eglė Balčiūnaitė,was born in 1988,  31 of October in Šiauliai, Lithuania. She began active exercising at age of ten.

Eglė Balčiūnaitė is considered to be one of the most promising 800 m distance runners in Lithuania. The athlete ranks between 8-11 positions in the international Athletics charts. She owns 400 m and 800 m Lithuanian running record and is also a member of Lithuanian Olympic Team. The runner is coached by Aleksandr Kitanov for many years now.

Middle-distance run track is a part of the field running which ranges from 600 to 3000 m. The major contests include 800 m, 1500 m and 3000 m distance races.

800 m distance is considered to be the most difficult race as it requires stamina and speed. This race is often called a sprint as one has to get over 400 m twice.

800 m distance is a part of the Olympic Games. Female run was included in Summer Olympics in 1928.  However it was withdrawn due to exhaustion that women were suffering after the race. The competition was renewed only in 1960 Olympics.

Eglė competes mainly in 800 m, as well as 400 m and 1500 m distance races (ancillary competitions).
